May Newsletter

Dear Community Volunteers, members and supporters

We're excited to share the highlights of another action-packed month at Community Enterprise PL12. Here's a summary of the wonderful events and achievements we've experienced together in May.

Unleash Your Creativity with Clay!

Our Air Dry Clay Workshops on the 2nd and 16th of May were a tremendous success! Participants enjoyed an immersive, hands-on pottery experience, learning about pottery materials and hand-building techniques. On the 2nd of May, attendees created unique air-dry clay objects, and on the 16th, they returned to decorate and varnish their masterpieces. It was fantastic to see creative spirits come together. Thank you to everyone who organised this and joined us, and we look forward to more creative workshops in the future!

Celebrating Our Fantastic Volunteers

A big shout-out to Anna Murphy, one of our amazing lead volunteers! Anna was recognised for her exceptional contributions to Community Enterprises PL12 and won a Room To Reward stay. She recently enjoyed a well-deserved break in the beautiful Scilly Isles. Congratulations, Anna! Your dedication and hard work are truly inspiring.

Music Group Celebrates with Power of Music Funding

We're thrilled to announce that our local music group, Do You Mind If I Sing, part of Community Enterprises PL12 Memory Box (previously Dementia Voice) has received £6,500 in Power of Music funding! This funding will support our vital work with people living with dementia, allowing us to now hold weekly singing sessions instead of twice a month. Due to the popularity of these sessions, we have to hire a room at the Wesley Methodist Church in Saltash. We also hire an experienced, trained music therapy singer who leads the group in an inclusive way. These sessions bring immense joy and cognitive stimulation to those who attend. A heartfelt thank you to the National Academy for Social Prescribing, The Utley Foundation, Arts Council England, Music for All, and other donors for making this possible.

Strengthening Community Ties

Earlier this month, CEPL12 had the honor of attending the Cornwall Community Foundation evening. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with fellow community members and organizations, showcasing our commitment to community engagement and support. Thank you to the Cornwall Community Foundation for hosting such a meaningful event, and to everyone who continues to support our mission. Together, we're building a stronger, more connected community.

Rock and Roll Fun for Dementia Voice Veterans Group

We had an amazing time last month at The Shado Centre in Saltash, where local singer Steve Brooks rocked the stage for our Dementia Voice Veterans Group! Our veterans loved the show, even joining in with some hand jive. Thank you, Steve, for a fantastic bit of rock and roll! It's moments like these that bring so much joy and camaraderie to our community.

Reminder for Volunteers: Weekly Blood Pressure Checks

A friendly reminder to all our wonderful volunteers: free blood pressure checks are available every Friday at the Community Kitchen, Fore Street, Saltash. Led by Charity Gladstone MBE, this initiative promotes health and well-being within our community. Make sure to take advantage of this valuable service!

As we wrap up May, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in our events and supported our initiatives. Your involvement makes our community vibrant and strong. We look forward to more exciting activities and achievements in the coming months..

Once again, thank you to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and commitment to Community Enterprises PL12. Together, we are making a real difference in our community, and we look forward to many more successes in the future.

Warm regards,

Jo Grail
